The £2.6m bargain striker who snubbed Celtic revealed by Ange Postecoglou in knowing transfer jab
The frontman was on the radar of the Nottingham Forest boss during his time in the Scottish Premiership
Former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has lifted the lid on the transfer snub from Cho Gue-Sung during his time at Parkhead.
Cho was on the Hoops' radar in January of 2023 after catching the eye at the World Cup in Qatar with South Korea - but at the time he would opt to remain in the K-League to focus on his fitness levels and pursue a summer transfer to European football.
Following the arrival of Hyeongyu Oh as well as the departure of Ange Postecoglou, the Scottish Premiership champions opted not to follow up their interest in the South Korean international in he next window.
But the move never materialsed as he made the switch to FC Midtjylland for a lowball £2.6million transfer fee - where he would lift the Danish Superliga title the following year.
Despite impressing early on in Denmark, a nightmare knee injury and a post-surgery infection would lead to a massive 15 month lay-off for Cho.
He has returned to action in August for the start of the new season - and has netted twice as the frontman works his way back to full fitness.
Now he is set to face off against Postecoglou's Nottingham Forest in the Europa League - and the Australian admits he does remember the knock back.
Speaking ahead of the game, the Australian said: "I tried really hard to bring him to Celtic, but he ended up turning me down, so I wasn’t happy about that.
"At that time he was doing really well, and you could see the qualities he had.
"His career has gone in a slightly different direction since then, but I still know him really well, because we studied him closely in the scouting department when we wanted to sign him.”
Postecoglou will hope the transfer miss doesn't come back to haunt him as he searches for his first win since taking over at Forest last month.
