Airdrie boss Danny Lennon: I can't believe we left Partick Thistle in defeat
The Diamonds boss felt his side had the game under control until Thistle levelled
Airdrie boss Danny Lennon can’t believe his side left Firhill with nothing after Partick Thistle fought back to win 2-1.
But he says they have to be stronger and avoid conceding twice inside five minutes.
Airdrie led at the interval through a Cole McKinnon strike, and it looked like they would take the points back to Lanarkshire.
But a Dan O’Reilly header in 77 minutes was followed by an Alex Samuel strike, to stretch Thistle’s winning run in the Championship to three successive games.
Lennon said: “To come away from that with zero points is bitterly disappointing, but I certainly come away with a lot of positives from tonight, particularly the first half performance.
“We’re coming here, to a very difficult venue, to a team that’s had a reasonably good start to the season, and I thought we handled it, in terms of where we felt their dangers were.
“Aidan Fitzpatrick, Logan Chalmers and Tony Watt, I thought we nullified them for long periods of the game.

Lennon added: “I think a big part of the game, even at the start of the second half, I felt nobody was really controlling the game, there were no real threats, and for us, when Thistle made their changes, that changed the game.
“The boy Samuel caused a wee bit more of a threat, trying to go in beyond, and stretched us a bit wider, and you could see them start to pepper.
“To concede from the corner, I don’t ,mind big players having headers, but not free ones.
“The second part of that is that after conceding you certainly don’t want to concede within five minutes of that, and that is a mentality we have to be stronger at.
“You’ve got to galvanise. You might be disappointed and on the ropes slightly, but you’ve got to pick yourself up and know how to stay in the fight.
“I stand here disappointed that we didn’t take anything from the game, points-wise, but we certainly took a lot from the performance.”
