Airdrie boss Danny Lennon is 'working hard to give fans a team they deserve'
Lennon says he knows supporters are 'hurting' over a poor run of results
Danny Lennon says everybody at Airdrie is working hard to give fans a team they deserve, as they try to dig themselves out of trouble.
Lennon says everybody at the Monklands club are hurting, due to a run of 10 games without a win in all competitions, that has left them bottom of the Championship and without a league victory.
And he says it will take character to dig themselves out of trouble, as they head for Queen’s Park on Saturday.
Lennon said: “I put a team out every single week with belief that we can win.
“The challenge is constant, but what this run does for us, is it shapes character, and that is certainly a big thing that we need at this club. There is a lot of good character there.
“I know the supporters are hurting, as we all are, and the passion in the stands drives us on – we feel that responsibility keenly.
“Everybody at the club is determined to turn that pain into points.
“Since I’ve come in, results certainly haven’t matched our ambition so far, and there’s no sugar-coating that.
“Our performances have been inconsistent at times, but as the manager I see the effort every day and I’m convinced that this group is more than capable of putting things right, and delivering the consistent, high-energy displays that our supporters deserve.
“When we play with that intensity, we are at our best.
“We’re working hard to give you a team that’s hungry, that is organised, and desperate to put points on the board.
“We certainly owe that to everybody who cares about Airdrie Football Club and we’ll certainly not stop until we see those results come through.”
Airdrie are still looking for their first league win this season as they head to the City Ground, and Lennon hopes the clash can be a turning point.

“We prepare, we dust ourselves down, and we learn a little bit more about each other every single time.
“We had a free week ahead of the Queen’s Park match and it certainly gave us a chance to address areas for improvement on the training ground.
“We will work relentlessly to ensure we carry those lessons from the previous games into what will certainly be a busy run of fixtures.
“There’s undoubtedly a talented group in there, and it’s just trying to get the ingredients right.
“We do have some very talented individuals, and as much as they can do a bit of brilliance and win you a game of football, the most important part is it has to be collectively, which we’re striving for.
“As much as you can get a piece of individual brilliance, we’ve also had individuals that cause mistakes.
“Since coming in, there have been a lot of things I’ve been pleased with, at certain spells in games, and I’d like to see that being a lot more consistent.
“But it certainly gives me fuel and belief that we have enough there to compete with the teams that are in there round about us.”
Airdrie lost 2-1 at home to Morton last time out, but Lennon saw encouraging signs.
He said: “We’ve got to build ourselves into games, and I thought we did that very well in our last game; we had a big platform.
“In the previous three games we hadn’t started well enough, but I thought against Morton there was very little in the game.”
