Apple iPhone Air striking new design and where to pre-order the thinnest model ever
Apple's new iPhone 17 range features a new addition that could be the smartphone's biggest refresh in years
Apple has finally unveiled its latest iPhone range. On Tuesday (September 9), the tech giant held its annual showcase live from its California headquarters, where it launched the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air.
Pre-orders for each model will open at 1pm on Friday, September 12, with availability beginning Friday, September 19. Retailers including Sky Mobile, EE, Mobiles.co.uk, Vodafone and Three have all confirmed they will be offering the device, with prices to be confirmed.
Shoppers will also be able to buy the phones outright from Apple and Amazon from this Friday, September 12. Arguably, the most striking addition to the iPhone lineup is the iPhone Air, which is being touted as the thinnest iPhone ever.

Measuring 5.1mm thick and weighing 165g, this is the first Apple smartphone in the brand’s 'Air' range, a series of slim and lightweight devices which until now only featured iPads and MacBooks. The iPhone Air is designed with a Grade 5 titanium frame built with 80% recycled titanium, which Apple says makes the handset ‘as strong as it is stunning’.
It also boasts a 6.5” Super Retina XDR display with a durable Ceramic Shield protecting the front and back, making it four times more resistant to cracks and providing three times better scratch resistance than the iPhone 16, according to Apple. The device is powered by the latest-generation A19 Pro chip, said to be ‘the fastest processor in any smartphone’ so it can handle even the most demanding tasks smoothly.

TV fans can get Apple TV+ free with a seven-day trial and stream their favourite shows like Severance, Ted Lasso and Slow Horses.
Just remember to cancel before the trial ends if you don't want to pay the subscription price.
The iPhone’s battery has also received a boost, with the iPhone Air able to deliver up to 27 hours of video playback from a single charge. It can also be powered to 50% in just 30 minutes.
For keen photographers, the phone boasts a 48MP Fusion camera system, providing two advanced cameras in one for shooting in ‘super-high-resolution’, alongside an 8MP Centre Stage front camera.
The iPhone Air will come with iOS 26 installed out of the box, which delivers standout features such as the new liquid glass design, a more vibrant and dynamic lock screen and call screening, which automatically answers unknown callers to find their name and reason for calling before you pick up.
Apple Intelligence is also at the forefront of the phone, with countless AI features making life easier including live translation, photo clean up and visual intelligence, allowing users to search, ask questions and take action with the content on their iPhone screen. The iPhone Air has three storage options – 256GB, 512GB and 1TB – and a choice of four colours: Sky Blue, Cloud White, Light Gold and Space Black.
