Best soup recipe to boost immunity thanks to two powerhouse ingredients
A recipe has been shared for an immunity-boosting chicken broth soup, packed full of flavour, and it's a great idea for when you're sick and want to feel better as soon as possible
When you're feeling under the weather, sometimes nothing hits the spot quite like a bowl of soup. However, certain soup recipes can do more than just comfort you – they can actually strengthen your immune system. This could help you recover more quickly and get back to your normal routine sooner.
TikToker Cile Wells, who shares content as @cilesmeals, posted a recipe she discovered from @wishbonekitchen that's designed to help when you're poorly. "It's essentially Italian penicillin soup with shredded chicken and rice. Would also be great with Pastina," she explained. The ginger and turmeric featured in this recipe are particularly beneficial for recovery.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, ginger can support your immune system due to its rich antioxidant content, whilst also offering anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, antiviral and antibacterial properties.
Meanwhile, turmeric may enhance your immune response through its primary active ingredient, curcumin, which possesses both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities.
Curcumin is a polyphenol that has anti-inflammatory effects and can increase the quantity of antioxidants your cells produce.
Given these benefits, both ingredients are incredibly potent when you're feeling unwell.
Cile explained in her caption: "All you do is sweat out chopped carrot, celery, white onion and garlic. Add thyme and bone broth of your choice.
"I also grated in some fresh turmeric and ginger for extra immunity boosting. Add salt and pepper. Let this cook until the vegetables are soft, and then blend with an immersion blender.
"If you're using an enamel pot, make sure that you're careful with the immersion blender so as not to scrape the enamel.
"Once everything is blended to your liking, add a tablespoon of chicken bouillon, a couple of cups of cooked rice and a couple of cups of your shredded chicken.
"Mixed together, add extra salt and pepper to taste. I served with shredded Parm and black pepper on top!"
"This is great to help kick your sickness, boost your immunity and works awesome as leftovers to eat throughout the week!"
She described it as a truly "comforting" soup, with people commenting they "needed" it whilst feeling poorly and struggling to "keep anything down".
"So we're all sick at the minute huh?" one woman joked.
Others described it as "nostalgic", bringing back memories of soups their grandparents or parents prepared for them when they were feeling unwell.
