Bizarre darts bust-up takes new twist as PDC star offers in depth explanation
Madars Razma explains his comments which sparked a feisty response from rival Mickey Mansell
Madars Razma has moved to clear the air after a bizarre online bust-up with PDC rival Mickey Mansell.
But the Latvian has made it clear he doesn't care if he’s on “bad boy lists” after the comments which brought much attention.
Mansell responded to a post on X from Razma following their encounter at this week’s Players Championship 32.
The Northern Irishman won 6-4 with an impressive 102-plus average, but his victim’s post-match wording appeared to upset him.
Razma wrote: “I was sleeping and the audience was sleeping, but still, a quality performance from my opponent.”
Given both men have been hammered in the past for slow play, it seemed to be taken as a dig by Mansell who replied: “After today you just moved inside the top 10 of my xxxx list.”
Fans were onto the exchange in a flash and Mansell then replied to one fan who pinned the accusation at him by saying: “Only for losers!”
Razma has now taken to another of his social-media outlets to explain the actual meaning of his comments, but made it clear he’s out on the circuit chasing success and not friends.
He wrote on Facebook: “Very sad to read this. If something was misunderstood, then I apologise! I already wrote that my opponent played quality game. I thought I was sleeping, because I couldn’t find my emotions for the game. After LAT vs ENG [Latvia vs England] football game the night before I felt a bit tired and I was just sleeping.
"The audience was sleeping because after our match I got messages from “fans” about a boring game. We known each other’s playing style for years and only newcomers can surprise me. And I don’t care if I’m on some bad boy lists. I’m away from my family a lot and I go to fight, not to be best friend during tournaments. Thank you and have a nice day everyone.”
Razma also encountered online issues earlier this year when he pleaded with critics to stop their abuse as he gave some insight into his struggles away from darts.
He used his Facebook again to state: “I never thought that I would have to do this, but keyboard warriors keep commenting on my performance and results in darts and it really kills. I know there always will be some idiots, but I hope that after this, someone will stop doing it.
“I know that in the last few months I have been far from the performance I can and I want to show. But I have my own reasons why I don’t respond to your messages and decline all interviews. So, just a few days before the start of the season uninvited guests came to my family’s new house.
“If you want to know, then things are going much better now, but anyway, except a few local tournaments in Latvia, I have not practiced any single darts at home this year and it’s just normal that week by week my performance and confidence is going down.
“Therefore, I would like to ask all haters to understand my situation, be human and keep all criticism to yourself. Thank you for your understanding and I know that one day I will be back to playing quality darts again.”
