Bob MacIntyre prize money revealed as Ryder Cup star sees Alfred Dunhill win propel him into elite
The Oban superstar pockets another fortune after winning the title at St Andrews by blowing Jon Rahm and Co away
Bob MacIntyre swapped heckles for yet more sheckles when he claimed his second major title on home soil at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
The Scots superstar suffered a torrent of abuse at Bethpage last week before helping Luke Donald’s Team Europe grab a stunning away Ryder Cup win.
But there were only cheers at St Andrews on Sunday as the home hero demolished the field to follow up from his Scottish Open glory last year. The huge win also sees him propelled to being the eighth best player in the world.
The tournament – not won by a Scot in 20 years since Colin Montgomerie – was spoiled by horrendous weather conditions during Storm Amy that reduced the competition to 54 holes.
But it was MacIntyre that was to blow everyone away at the Home of Golf – including fellow European stars such as Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton and Matt Fitzpatrick.
The Oban native finished 18 under par overall Hatton – four shots ahead of second-placed Hatton from England. He will pocket just under £600,000 for the event which is also played at Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.
He said: "It was a great week and I’m delighted with how it’s gone. I’ve played well all week but I think Friday at Kingsbarns was as good as I’ve got."
MacIntyre revealed at the start of the week the abuse he had copped over in New York. The 29-year-old had been branded a "milk bottle” as well as jibes such as "Bobby Mac and Cheese".
