Calvin Ramsay in shock Liverpool lifeline as ex Aberdeen star ready to answer Arne Slot SOS

The Scotland cap hasn't kicked a ball for the Reds since Arne Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp as manager

Calvin Ramsay could be in line for a shock Liverpool recall - THREE years after his last senior game for the Premier League champions.

The ex-Aberdeen starlet landed a stunning move to Anfield in 2022 after a sparkling breakthrough season at Pittodrie.

Ramsay banked the Dons a club-record fee - understood to be £4.2million plus bonuses - and initially trained with the first-team squad.

But after making his Reds debut as a late sub in a 2-0 Champions League win over Napoli, the defender's only other appearance was a start in a 3-2 Carabao Cup penalty shootout win over Derby County in November 2022.

Now, 1,087 days on, the Scotland cap could answer an SOS call from Arne Slot ahead of Wednesday's League Cup showdown at home to Crystal Palace.

Toiling Liverpool have lost five of their last six games and are also managing an injury crisis with Curtis Jones joining the likes of Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong on the treatment table.

Slot is short of options at right-back, and rather than risk first-pick Conor Bradley, the Anfield boss is considering calling upon forgotten man Ramsay.

He's had to play midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai on the right of the back four at times this season and Ramsay may provide a relief option.

Ramsay, 22, has featured for the club's academy set-up this season and most recently scored in the under-21s' Merseyside Derby triumph over Everton.

He's also had mixed loan stints with Preston, Bolton, Wigan and Kilmarnock.

Now, he could be thrust back into the first-team fold for the first time since Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp as manager.
