Cheeky animals caught on camera at the comedy photography awards

    From camera-shy elephants, hiding coyly behind their flapping ears, to a hilariously named red-throated loon - wings out and landing gear down - skidding to a watery standstill, these astonishing pictures and video capture priceless moments of animal life.

    You have to laugh at the yellow-cheeked gibbon, chilling in the trees - clearly master of all he surveys.
    Meanwhile the mallard, captured on a cold spring morning in Bavaria, made himself something of a sitting duck for caption writers - looking just like a smoker having a crafty fag on a chilly morning.

    And, not forgetting, red squirrels might fly … well this photographers comical little chap does anyway. Snapped mid-jump in a Belgian forest near the home of photographer Stefan Cruysberghs, this is one of 40 incredible finalists’ images for the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards 2025.

    The winners of the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards will be announced at an awards night in London on December 9.
