Christmas market in 'authentic and peaceful' town is 'must-visit' for scenic views
A travel blogger has shared her thoughts on the best Christmas market in Europe, and it's located in a 'real winter wonderland' town
The festive season is rapidly approaching, and many Christmas enthusiasts are organising visits to famous markets. For those looking for ideas, one travel lover has claimed she's discovered the "best Christmas Market in Europe", situated in a winter wonderland location.
Travel blogger and content creator Abbie-lea Geraghty shared the recommendation on TikTok, where she posts as @abbieleageraghty. In her video, Abbie-lea explained: "I work in travel, and I'm also a bit of a Christmas market connoisseur, so this is why I've come to tell you that the best Christmas market in Europe is in Innsbruck, Austria.
"It's the most quaint, gorgeous village that I've ever been to, colourful buildings, and mountains set against the markets. It's so authentic and peaceful compared to some of the other bigger cities, like Vienna and Budapest.
"If you're looking for a real, true winter wonderland you can take a cable car up to the top of Innsbruck, find snowy hills, hot chocolate, do some sledging, and the most breathtaking views. Honestly, I will fight anyone who thinks they can find a better Christmas market than this."
Viewers loved the recommendation, and the video earned over 300,000 views and 27,000 likes, reports the Express. Several commenters praised the destination. Someone replied: "You make me want to book a trip asap!!!"
Another wrote: "I agree I love Innsbruck!!" A viewer said: "Innsbruck was one of my faves!! Lived in Munich so used to go a lot," and a fan asked: "Would you say it’s kids friendly?"
Abbie-lea replied: "Yeah I would! There were loads of sledging at the top of Innsbruck, at the markets, merry go round - I think 2/3 nights with kids would be good."
Another commenter questioned: "Love this! Which airport did you fly from?" Abbie-lea replied: "We actually flew from Manchester to Vienna, and did a little Austria Christmas Market trip… the train connections are perfect for it! Our last stop was Munich in Germany where we flew home from! Innsbruck does have its own airport, though."
Not everyone agreed with the video, though. A different comment said: "Nope, Brussels Christmas market is elite!" A second reply read: "Love Innsbruck for the wintery vibes but it’s far off the best Christmas market in Europe sorry."
Another wrote: "Sorry, but Innsbruck isn’t great.. lovely scenic city. But the markets there are very average. Salzburg much better, Vienna also obvs the king of European Christmas markets. Even Munich and Prague are better than Innsbruck."
A festive fan thought: "This looks lovely! We try and go to one every Christmas and we would say Berlin was the best we have been to so far!"
Someone added: "I disagree! Yes the place is beautiful but….the xmas market isn’t the best. I went 3 years ago, Ive lived in many different places in Germany and the Germans do it best! And they travel agents don’t tell you, if the weather is bad, you can’t fly out of Innsbruck as it’s a valley and the fog gets bad."
