Edinburgh bus passengers in hospital after crash sees front of double-decker 'ripped apart'

Eleven passengers were on board the bus which suffered severe damage, with both the front windscreen and the top front window of the double decker smashed to smithereens.

Three people have been rushed to hospital after a double-decker bus crashed on a busy road in Edinburgh on Monday morning.

The passengers were onboard a Lothian bus which smashed into a telecommunications mast on November 3.

The dramatic event unfolded on Calder Road in the Sighthill area of the city at around 11.15am.

Emergency services, including police and paramedics, raced to the scene.

Medics immediately attended to five of the 11 passengers who were on board at the time.

Three of them were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh to be assessed. The bus driver was not injured.

Photos of the aftermath of the smash show the bus ground to a halt at the side of the road with extensive damage to the front of the vehicle, according to EdinburghLive.

Both the front windscreen and the top front window of the double decker bus are smashed.

The right side of the vehicle looks dented and caved in, as if it is bore the brunt of the impact.

The front bumper of the bus also appears to be hanging off of the vehicle and it appears to have stopped suddenly beside a lamppost. The large vehicle can be seen having come to a resting place near electrical boxes.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10.15am on Monday, 3 November, 2025, we were called to a report of a bus crashing into a telecommunications mast on Calder Road, Edinburgh.

"Emergency services attended and five of the 11 passengers were checked at the scene by ambulance crews and three were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for assessment.

"The driver was not injured. Enquiries are ongoing."

A spokesperson for Lothian buses previously confirmed that one of their vehicles was involved in an incident.

A spokesperson for Lothian buses said: "We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in an incident earlier this morning on Calder Road and we are fully assisting Police Scotland with their enquiries."
