Former North Ayrshire Tory Todd Ferguson signs up for Nigel Farage and Reform
Todd Ferguson has become the third Tory to join Reform.
Former Conservative Todd Ferguson has become the third North Ayrshire councillor to join Reform UK Scotland.
He joins fellow former Tory colleagues Stewart Ferguson and Matthew McLean in the party led in the UK by Nigel Farage.
The party welcomed the move from the North Coast councillor in a statement posted to social media on Monday.
The post stated: “We’re delighted to welcome Cllr Todd Ferguson to #ReformUKScotland.
“We have all the momentum in Scottish politics!”
Councillor Ferguson announced his resignation from the Conservative Party in July, and has sat as an independent councillor since, although there had been rumours he would sign up for Reform.
He has represented the North Coast ward for eight years, and prior to that served as deputy leader of the North Ayrshire Conservatives.
He was also the Scottish Conservatives’ candidate for North Ayrshire and Arran in the 2024 Westminster election, in which he polled 14 per cent and finished third behind triumphant Labour candidate Irene Campbell and SNP incumbent Patricia Gibson.
Mr Ferguson has previously lived and worked in New Zealand.
Cllr Ferguson said: “Having served as a councillor for eight years, I’ve seen a lot of changes in our political landscape, and I believe this is an exciting time for a new direction in Scotland.
“Reform UK is the only party that truly focuses on the real priorities of people here, from immigration and housing to the economy and public services.
“I’m passionate about putting our communities first and ensuring that these key issues are addressed effectively.
“Together, we can bring about the positive change that Scotland needs.”
The Tories now only have five members on the council including another North Coast member Tom Marshall.
More than half a dozen councillors across Scotland have now switched ranks from the Conservatives to Reform, while former Conservative MSP Graham Simpson was unveiled as the party’s first representative in the Scottish Parliament in July.
