Karen Gillan rocks air guitar at US Open with husband Nick ahead of Highlander role

The Guardians of The Galaxy star was at the US Open Tennis Championships with husband Nick Kocher in New York on Saturday.

Karen Gillan showed off her air guitar skills as she arrived at a US tennis tournament at the weekend.

The star of the Guardians of The Galaxy franchise in which she played blue alien Nebula, was at the US Open Tennis Championships with her husband Nick Kocher in New York on Saturday.

Clad in black, she exuded rock star chic by grabbing a spare racquet for an air guitar solo.

The 37-year-old Inverness-born star, who is currently starring in the movie The Life Of Chuck, donned a black jacket and mini dress as she soaked up the action at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Gillan, who found fame as Amy Pond on Doctor Who, has become one of Hollywood’s hottest stars. She has landed a role in a Highlander reboot soon.

The original 1986 film starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod and Beatie Edney as his wife, Heather, with Henry Cavill and Gillan now reprising the roles. Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista and Marisa Abela will also star in the film which is due to begin shooting in Scotland next month.

Gillan joked that she will not need any accent training to prepare for the role. She said: "My dialect coach can sit this one out. So excited to be an actual Highlander in Highlander."

Gillan also said she plans to bring her baby daughter to the set so she can visit her mother's homeland. She welcomed Clementine into the world with husband Nick Kocher in December.

She added: "I am going to have to figure it out because I refuse to be parted with her. I am more likely to take a job if it films in Scotland. I'm always looking for reasons to come to Scotland.

"I think my next job is going to be in Scotland so she will be seeing it soon. I can take her to Eden Court Theatre and I want to take her to the pantomime in Inverness - that's my biggest dream."

The original Highlander starred French actor Christopher Lambert as 16th-century clansman MacLeod and Sean Connery as his Egyptian mentor Ramirez.

Chronicling the climax of an age-old battle between immortal warriors - where there can be only one - scenes were shot at various locations in Scotland, including Eilean Donan Castle, Glen Coe, Glen Nevis and Skye.
