If you know your Celtic lore then Martin O'Neill's presence at training was exception rather than the norm.

The Irishman leaned on the mind games used by his mentor Brian Clough by keeping his distance and allowing trusted lieutenants to dish out instruction in lieu of the big chief.

But Friday was always O'Neill's day as he would take in the session at Barrowfield before meeting the media.

The venue has now changed and, perhaps. so has the man himself. O'Neill looked to be breaking his own rules as he was embedded in the session at the club's base nestled within the rolling hills of East Dunbartonshire.

And the old-school distance had dissipated as he enjoyed a laugh with skipper Callum McGregor and added further evidence that the 73-year-old is having the time of his life.

The Kilrea native never imagined he would be the man tasked with replacing Brendan Rodgers but boy is he going to give a good go.

And the beaming smile is no doubt brighter with a mouthwatering clash with Rangers taking place at Hampden.

It was a case of Freaky Friday this Hallowe’en, as O'Neill morphed back into his old self as he wound the clock back 20 years.

Record Sport was on hand to take in O'Neill's emotional comeback to the club he adores.
