Partick Thistle under the lights can kick-start Airdrie's season, says ace
Euan Henderson reckons a Friday game under the floodlights is a great chance for Airdrie to get going
Euan Henderson hopes Airdrie can kick-start their season at Partick Thistle on Friday, under the floodlights and in front of the cameras.
The Diamonds head to Firhill still looking for their first win of the Championship season, with draws against Ross County and Queen’s Park, but defeats at Dunfermline and Arbroath.
Danny Lennon’s men head into an important month, with a home game against Raith Rovers and a trip to Ayr United to follow, and Henderson hopes Airdrie can play their way to three points in Maryhill.
He said: “It’s going to be easy to get yourself up for the game on Friday, with it being on TV.
“Partick Thistle are a good team, they like to pass it and mix it up well, and I was looking at their previous results, they’ve won three in a row [against Raith Rovers, Ross County and Ayr], so they’re on quite a good run just now.
“They will be feeling confident and good about the game, but I think we’ve just got to go and play our own game – we know how we can play.
“I don’t think we’ve showed the best of ourselves this season, but I reckon if we do, we’ve got a good chance, going into the game.
“It’s a game you want to perform in, there are probably more eyes on the game, with it being on the telly, and it’s one that as a team and a player, you want to give a good account of yourself in, knowing that.”
Henderson isn’t looking too far into the future, but says the nature of the Championship is such that every team can take points off each other.
He said: “It is important to take it game by game. Though it’s pretty cliché, but we go into every game thinking we can get something.
“In the league this season it doesn’t really look like there’s a stand-out team. St Johnstone have got off to a good start, but everyone else is probably nip-and-tuck, and will be feeling that they can get something from it.
“That shows it’s a good league this year, an exciting one and I’m looking forward to it, I know the rest of the lads are as well.”
Airdrie were left idle last weekend as St Johnstone had players on international duty, and Henderson wanted to make amends for their 1-0 defeat at Arbroath a fortnight ago, with former hero Nikolay Todorov bagging a late winner.
Henderson said: “After last week’s result at Arbroath, you want to try and amend that result and try to get back to that winning feeling.
“At the same time, with the new manager coming in, it gives him time to implement his new ideas, set his standards on the team and what he wants from us. It was a tight game, a lot of our games this season have been pretty tight, and we’ve just come on the wrong end of them, so far.”
