I was released by Celtic after not playing a single game but now I've landed dream chance with Chelsea
One former Hoops youngster has hit the jackpot after signing for six-time league champions Chelsea
Football can be a funny old game sometimes.
Despite not making a single appearance in his two years at Celtic, one ex Parkhead prospect has been handed a golden opportunity by English Premier League giants Chelsea.
Highly-rated, versatile defender Justin Osagie arrived in Glasgow's East End on a three-year-deal in September 2022 after rising through the ranks in the academy at West Ham in the English capital.
He went onto become a regular for Celtic's B team in the Lowland League and also briefly saw some action for the U19s side in the UEFA Youth League.
But after failing to make the grade at Celtic Park, Osagie was released from his contract a year early in the summer of 2024, joining English third tier team Peterborough United four months later.
And his spell with the Posh turned out to be equally as disappointing, with the youngster being shipped out on loan to National League North side Peterborough Sports where he subsequently picked up an injury.
The 21-year-old left the club earlier this year only to then be offered a trial by Chelsea during the summer.
Osagie was named amongst the substitutes in the Blues' U21s Vertu Trophy clash with Northampton Town last month and has now penned a contract with the Stamford Bridge powerhouses.
Meanwhile, Celtic star Auston Trusty has delved deep into the demands of playing in the green-and-white.
The USA international told GOAL's The Rondo: "People think winning is easy. It’s not. It takes so much mental energy to stay at that level every single week.
"Once your skills hit a certain level, it becomes all mental — staying switched on, staying at that high frequency of excellence.
"Coming to Celtic — a team of this calibre, a historic club — the mindset is only, only winning. If you don’t win 3–0 or 5–0 or 6–0 in these league games, in a sense, it’s like a loss.
"That’s the difference — being so tuned in, so obsessed, only accepting and really internalising winning. That’s the kind of locker room I thrive in.
"When I’m playing these games, I’m not thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, look who we’re playing.’ I’m thinking, ‘This is my moment — I’ve worked my whole life for this.’"
