Ricky Hatton dead aged 46 as three time boxing world champion found at home

The three-time light welterweight and welterweight world champion was a firm favourite amongst British boxing fans

British boxing icon Ricky 'The Hitman' Hatton has been found dead at home, Police have confirmed.


The three-time light welterweight and welterweight world champion was a firm favourite amongst British boxing fans and was planning a controversial return to the ring in December this year.


However, fight fans have been left in shock at the news of his tragic passing aged 46.


A statement from Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the body of a man had been found at an address in Hyde.

It read: "We can confirm that we have found a body at an address on Bowlacre Road in Gee Cross at 6.45am today, Sunday, September 14. The death is not being treated as suspicious."

Hatton has admitted struggles with depression and alcohol abuse since retiring 13 years ago.


He made several attempts to take his own life and overcame an fall out with his family who he made up with after addressing his own mental health.

He stepped back in the ring for an exhibition bout with Mexican great Marco Antonio Barrera three years ago.

And he was set for another comeback in Dubai before the end of 2025 with a fight against Eisa Aldah lined up.


The famous Manchester City fan is most remembered for his stunning victory over Australia Kosta Tszyu for the IBF and The Ring junior welterweight championship two decades ago.

Two years later he headed stateside to take on the great Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for the WBC and The Ring welterweight titles, with Mayweather winning by TKO in the tenth round.
