Robbie Keane breaks silence amid Celtic next manager link after thumping Ferencvaros win
The former Parkhead loanee is said to be a candidate to become the next man in the dugout at Parkhead
Robbie Keane has spoken out for the first time since being linked with the Celtic job.
The Republic of Ireland hero has made a bright start to his career in management, winning a league and cup double with Maccabi Tel Aviv before leading Ferencvaros to the Hungarian championship last season.
The 45-year-old is already known to the Hoops thanks to a prolific spell during his playing days in the second half of the 2009/10 season, scoring 16 goals in just 19 matches after shareholder Dermot Desmond personally funded his loan transfer from Tottenham.
Various sources report that Keane is a contender to replace Brendan Rodgers, with the likes of Kieran McKenna and Craig Bellamy also said to be in the running.
That's despite fan fury back home in Keane's native Ireland over his lack of support for Palestine during his stint Maccabi against the backdrop of the Israeli-Hamas conflict.
Keane's wife has taken to social media on several occasions to note that the family continue to receive abuse online on a daily basis as a result of his controversial spell in the Middle East.
But amid all the talk about Celtic, Keane has guided Ferencvaros into the last 16 of the Hungarian Cup with a 4-0 win against Bekescsaba on Wednesday night and hopes his team can take the performance into their league form, where they currently sit four points off leaders Paks.
Speaking after the game, he said: "It was a very professional performance, we scored very good goals, overall I'm satisfied.
"I think Madarász came on impressively, it was also visible in Lisztes that he was very good in one-on-one situations, obviously he needs some more time because it's been a long time since he played.
"Radnóti was also like he had played 50 games throughout.
"I think we are doing very well in terms of cups, but I expect the same energy, the same performance against a tough opponent this weekend."
