Robby McCrorie tipped for Scotland by Esbjerg coach after 'lifting his career' amid Angus Gunn injury
National boss Steve Clarke has goalkeeping issues due to a lack of games and an injury worry over Angus Gunn ahead of the vital World Cup qualifiers.
Esbjerg coach Sancheev Manoharan reckons Robby McCrorie is back to his best and worthy of a Scotland recall.
Scotland boss Steve Clarke, who names his squad for the vital World Cup qualifiers with Greece and Denmark, is struggling in the goalkeeping department with Angus Gunn, Liam Kelly or Craig Gordon not playing regular first-team football.
Nottingham Forest's Gunn is also a major injury concern.
McCrorie hasn’t been in the Scotland squad since he suffered a thigh injury in the warm-up against Iceland in June.
Manoharan said: “I cannot say who to pick for the Scotland national team but in my opinion, when you see some of their other goalkeepers aren’t playing as regularly, then there could be a place for Robby. “I can’t speak about the other goalkeepers but if he was to get a recall I would be so happy for him. “I feel he fully deserves that, although that is only from my perspective.”
McCrorie has become a big favourite at Efsbjerg, saving a number of penalty and pushing his side back towards the promotion picture.
Manoharan knows that bigger Danish clubs have been impressed and are also keen.
The keeper was surprisingly let out on loan by Killie. It is a move that manager Stuart Kettlewell must now be regretting, with Max Strjek injured and Eddie Beach struggling for form.
The Premiership strugglers have since had to take Tobi Oluwayemi on-loan from Celtic.
Manoharan stated: “Robby has been absolutely amazing.
“He has found his confidence and the right place for him. He is so relaxed and he is living in it. We have seen a big progression from when he first arrived and not just the saves and his aura.
“His goalkeeping ability was always there but you can see him growing in stature and confidence. For me, he can absolutely play for one of the biggest clubs in Denmark. We are just grateful that we can help each other.”
The former Rangers keeper made himself a social media sensation when he down a supporter’s pint on the pitch after he had played a starring role in their 1-0 win over Aarhus Fremad. Manohoran admitted he did it with his permission.
His manager confirmed: “In fairness, he looked at me first and I told him to go ahead and drink it! “It was in the moment and it helped strengthen his connection further with our fans.”
Manoharan believes he is revelling in playing out from the back and that is shining in a different environment.
He explained: “We were looking for a goalkeeper and we were looking at a lot of different options and then Robby’s name was mentioned.
“We looked at footage and along with the sporting director and goalkeeping coach we liked what we saw with Robby.
“He had played in a lot of big games and had also been involved with the Scotland international squad. “We felt we were getting a good goalkeeper with a lot of experience, although he is still young. “
When we spoke to Robby he made it clear he wanted to try and a more European-style challenge.
“When he came in he wasn’t 100 percent because he hadn’t had a lot of game time after his injury and we wanted to help lift him in his career and he could also help the team.”
