Scots doctor convicted of sexually abusing women for second time

Krishna Singh, 76, subjected his victims to numerous sexual offences between 1984 and 2017.

A doctor has been jailed for five years after being convicted of sexually abusing women for a second time.

Krishna Singh, 76, subjected his victims to numerous sexual offences between 1984 and 2017. He denied any wrongdoing and went on trial at Dumfries Sheriff Court but was convicted by a jury.

Singh, of Airdrie, Lanarkshire, was sentenced to five years in jail but told it will run alongside a 12-year prison term for other sexual crimes. The shamed medic was previously convicted at the High Court in Glasgow of sexual abuse over nearly four decades.

He kissed, groped, gave inappropriate examinations and made sleazy comments to 47 patients in various medical settings. Singh was convicted in April 2022 of 54 sex offence charges against women and girls and put behind bars.

The patients included a rape victim, teenage children and pregnant women. His trial was told that Singh was a sexual predator 'hiding in plain sight' when his offending took place between February 1983 and May 2018.

After the first trial more women came forward with allegations against Singh which led to a new prosecution being brought against him. Singh, who was awarded an MBE in 2013, became a GP in the early 1980s and went on to serve as a police casualty surgeon, which included examining victims of sexual violence.

An investigation was launched into his behaviour when one woman reported him to authorities in 2018. A letter was then sent to all patients at the practice to see if they could help in the police inquiry.

Following his latest conviction, Detective Chief Inspector Stevie Smith, of the National Rape and Sexual Crime Division, said: "Krishna Singh is now facing the consequences of his appalling and predatory behaviour.

"Singh was a doctor, and in a position of trust, and someone that these women should have been safe with but he violated that trust. The victims have shown great strength in coming forward with vital information, making sure he was held accountable for his actions, and ultimately convicted.

"I hope this conviction provides a sense of closure for them and sends a clear message that all reports of sexual abuse, regardless of the passage of time, will be thoroughly investigated by Police Scotland and victims will be supported throughout."
