Scots firm get red card from killjoy FA banning lionesses draught excluders
StopperFC which sells novelty pillows received a compaint fron the English FA.
Po-faced English FA bosses have barred a small Scots firm from using “Lionesses’’ on its quirky cushions.
Etsy brand StopperFC sells the novelty pillows which show players performing the draught excluder role at free kicks.
But England’s football authority objected to the Edinburgh firm using Lionesses.
Company boss Ritchie Crossman said: “I couldn’t believe it when we receive the complaint. We’re just a small company trying to make an honest living.
“We don’t use the Three Lions logo so to complain about a common word which has been in the dictionary for centuries is bonkers.
“We don’t have the financial clout to object though so have removed the phrase.
“But there’s more than one way to skin a big cat… we’ve found an easy way to get them back on sale while giving Lioness buyers first dibs.”
Cheeky Ritchie added: “I worry for Sir David Attenborough’s next documentary – he needs to watch how he refers to female lions otherwise he’ll be getting an angry legal notice.”
StopperFC sells more than 40 player novelty cushions at £34 a pop as well as 30 bar blades.
We told last year how yobs were foiled trying to torch the firm’s Celtic pillows on Bonfire Night.
Ritchie came up with the idea to produce the stoppers after watching players lying on the pitch behind defensive walls.
Scotland heroes Scott McTominay, John McGinn, Andy Robertson and Ben Gannon Doak are also available along with a host of other stars.
