Slimmed down Peter Wright barely eating in bid to be first Scot to win three World crowns

Snakebite has shed three stone as he attempts to get his game back to peak performance

Slimmed Peter Wright reckons barely eating can help him become the first Scot to win three World titles.

Snakebite is back in action this afternoon at the World Series of Darts Finals when facing countryman Cameron Menzies in Amsterdam.

Wright is struggling for form in 2025 and has slipped down the rankings to the No.16 spot, but is taking radical steps to turn his form.

He’s lost three stone since the middle of June and said: “To be honest, not eating. Just eating once a day.

“Exercise, walking. I’ve been lucky enough not to be picked for all these World Series things and the Premier League. It’s given me time to actually just do stuff around the place instead of running from one tournament to the next, being on planes and travelling everywhere.

“It’s been great to do things at home and not think about darts. I feel really fit. A hundred times better. I just feel more focused and I can’t wait for the way I feel to come out in my darts.

“I don’t think I’m finished. My stats say different. Mentally, yeah, I feel good. I haven’t practised hardly at all. I don’t need to because I know the game’s there. Well, it’s not, but it is, you know?

“In my head, I don’t think I need to be playing all the time and on the road to keep sharp. Playing the best players does help, but it doesn’t help with old age and travelling. It’s tiring being at the top for so long.

“In a way, yeah, I miss all the fans and going around the world, representing the PDC. But at the same time, I haven’t missed it.

“The game is there. Look at my match against [Luke] Humphries at the Worlds last year, the European Championship I won, the Euro Tour where I beat [Luke] Littler in Hildesheim.

“Those individual games are still there. But it’s the week after week, over and over. That’s the tricky thing.

“What am I going to do after darts? I’ve no idea. I want to be that first one to win a million and be a three-time Scottish World Champion.”

Wright does confess that power has been lost along with the weight as he added: “Yes, definitely. Especially at Milton Keynes. Oh my God. The dart would just get to a certain distance and then drop, or just kick to the right and not quite reach my target.

“So that’s another thing I’ve been experimenting with.

“I’ve been experimenting with longer points, because that’s what everyone’s doing at the moment. But they just haven’t suited me.

“So I’ve gone back to darts that look like Michael van Gerwen’s, but they’re actually my Elements from years ago, with the points I used to use. And a lighter dart, which doesn’t drop.”
