Steven Gerrard slapped with 'X-rated chants' at Anfield as Liverpool hero hears it from fans with axe to grind
Gerrard's nightmare spell at Villa Park still stings for those experienced it
Returning Liverpool hero Steven Gerrard was reportedly showered in boos and X-rated chants at Anfield from Aston Villa fans still smarting from his ill-fated 11 months as their manager.
The Liverpool hero - minutes after revealing why he walked away from a return to Rangers – made his way past the travelling Villa fans as they let him have it on home turf.
Gerrard's nightmare spell, after leaving Rangers, at Villa Park ended in October 2022 after a chastening defeat at the hands of Fulham and no love is lost among a fanbase who never gelled with the football icon.
Theo Squires, from the Liverpool Echo, posted on X, stating: "Aston Villa fans boo Steven Gerrard and chant 'w*****' as he walks in front of them following the conclusion of his TNT Sports pre-match commitments."
But it was all smiles in the end for Gerrard as his beloved Liverpool proved too much for Unai Emery's side to handle.
