Three Scottish restaurants added to Michelin Guide including 'foodie haven'

"This instantly likeable restaurant unsurprisingly offers a fabulous feast of fish."

Three restaurants in Scotland have been added to the Michelin Guide. Among the new additions is a city seafood restaurant that has been described as "terrific".

On Wednesday, October 29, the Michelin Guide revealed the new addition to its list of the top restaurants in the UK and Ireland. Each month, Michelin inspectors announce the restaurants across the nation that have earned a spot on its prestigious guide.

Two of the Scottish eateries that have been newly added to the Michelin Guide, Barry Fish and Dùthchas, are found in Edinburgh. The third new addition, the Coorie Inn, is located near the Perthshire town of Crieff.

Barry Fish is a new independent restaurant located in the heart of Edinburgh's buzzy Leith neighbourhood. The eatery specialises in fish dishes, though also offers options for non-fish eaters.

The restaurant, which was created by award-winning chef Barry Bryson, sources high-quality fish and shellfish from within Scotland. It also makes use of seasonal produce from farmers, fishermen, producers, and growers across the UK.

Barry Fish serves snacks and 'wee bowls', as well as both lunch and dinner menus. Among the dishes on offer are sea trout with chicken shrimp butter sauce and greens, shelled half lobster with smoked fish agnolotti, brown butter sauce, and pickled fennel, and Loch Fyne oysters.

The Michelin Guide states: "Yet another terrific eatery in the foodie haven of Leith, this instantly likeable restaurant unsurprisingly offers a fabulous feast of fish. From whole sole to the signature sea trout pastrami, the cooking is fuss-free and cleanly executed to show off the natural flavours of the ingredients.

"At lunch, share plates from the ‘Big Snacks’ selection, which at dinnertime become starters to be enjoyed before larger offerings such as a half lobster with smoked fish agnolotti. The team is one of the most welcoming around, so you’re sure to be well looked after."

Also located in Edinburgh's Leith district is Dùthchas, situated on Great Junction Street. The small restaurant features six tables, while its food is primarily inspired by seasonal ingredients from across the Scottish Isles.

Customers at Dùthchas can enjoy either a six-course tasting menu or a three-course taster menu. Dishes include scallop with pea and sweetcorn, turbot with aubergine and mussel, and venison with celeriac and potato.

The Michelin Guide writes: "Blink and you could easily miss this diminutive restaurant in an unassuming parade of shops. Given what a lovely restaurant it is, we therefore recommend walking through Leith with your eyes wide open.

"Inside, it’s a cosy six-table operation where the enthusiastic chefs deliver satisfyingly original dishes as either a tasting menu or a fixed-price à la carte. Sit back and relax as the team proudly walk you through seasonally changing creations, such as their clever take on prawn toast.

The third and final new addition to the Michelin Guide is the Coorie Inn in the village of Muthill. The award-winning restaurant with rooms dates back to the 18th century, and includes original features such as beams and brickwork alongside a cosy fireplace.

The Coorie Inn offers lunch, dinner, and Sunday roast menus. There are also daily specials available, as well as a catch of the day from the local fish market.

The Michelin Guide praised the Coorie Inn for its "lovely blend of the old and the new", singling out its historic features. Also applauded was the inn's "quality seasonal produce" and "fresh-tasting dishes".
