Tranquil Perthshire town that was named Scotland's 'happiest place to live'

It is known as a gateway to the Highlands.

All over Scotland, there are idyllic towns and villages that are popular with both locals and holidaymakers. However, only one was recently named the most happy destination in the country.

As reported by the Daily Record, Furniturebox shared a list of the 75 happiest places to live in the UK. Topping the list for Scotland was the small town of Callander near Stirling.

Callander is located on the River Teith in the historic county of Perthshire. It is a popular holiday spot for holidaymakers looking to explore the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park and the Highlands.

The charming tourist town is renowned for its picturesque position south of the Highland Boundary Fault—a meeting point between the Highlands and the Lowlands. It is often referred to as a gateway to the Highlands.

With high wooded crags towering over Callander, it benefits from sensational views in every direction. Meanwhile, TV fans will recognise the small town as the filming location of the 1960s TV series Doctor Findlay's Casebook.

The surrounding area is home to a large variety of scenic walking trails to head out on. Some of the many stunning local beauty spots are Bracklinn Falls and the Callander Crags.

Walking around Callander, one of the first things visitors will notice about the vibrant town is that it is bursting with lovely little tearooms and gift shops. Among the many spots around Callander perfect for a small bite to eat are Deli Ecosse and the Ben Ledi Coffee Company.

For those after an evening meal, there are also plenty of options to choose from. Highlights include The Old Bank Restaurant, The Riverside Inn, and Desh Restaurant.

Anyone looking for holiday accommodation in Callander and the surrounding area has lots to choose from. There are both hotels and self-catered accommodation available, suiting every taste.

One of the top accommodation options in Callander is the Lubnaig Guest House. A stay at the inn is available to book for £139.05 per night through Booking.com.

Guest rooms at the guest house feature private bathrooms, tea and coffee makers, and garden views. Other amenities include a lounge, a garden and outdoor seating area, and a family-friendly restaurant serving Italian and Mediterranean cuisine.

On Booking.com, the Lubnaig Guest House has a rating of 9.3 out of 10. Visitors have described the accommodation as "exceptional" and "peaceful", though one claimed that the "breakfast was a little bit too small for what I was expecting from a guest house".

Elsewhere, just outside of Callander is the two-bedroom holiday rental Fois House. The property can be booked through Sykes Holiday Cottages at a price of £562 for three nights.

The home features a sitting room with a wood-burning stove, a kitchen-slash-diner, a bathroom with a tub, and a separate shower room. Outside, there is an enclosed garden with furniture.

Fois House has been described in reviews on Sykes Holiday Cottages as "a lovely house in the forest" and "beautifully peaceful". However, its location 7.4 miles from Callander may be too far from the town for some holidaymakers.
