Ugly heat stains gone 'in minutes' with 'no scrubbing' using common item

The simple hack helped one homeowner to banish the unsightly stains for good

A homeowner has revealed a simple technique for banishing heat stains after testing five different methods. Sharing her experience on TikTok as @Xomyhome, the DIY and design enthusiast explained how she'd accidentally stained her table and wanted to get rid of the marks.

Looking for a solution, the blogger tried various cleaning hacks. She explained: "I made a mistake and left a hot tea mug on my coffee table that left not one but two heat rings. So the internet says it can be fixed with a few different methods, so let's give it a try."

First, the social media user attempted to use toothpaste to remove the stain. She said: "I started with the easiest method of rubbing white toothpaste directly on the stain until it was fully covered. Nothing seemed to happen.

"So I wiped it off and moved on to the next easiest method, mayonnaise. I slathered a generous amount all over the stain, let it sit for 10 minutes, and absolutely nothing happened."

Unhappy with the lack of results, she tried using heat next, reports the Express. She continued: "Starting with the hair dryer, I vigorously blow-dried the stain until my arms gave out. The stain is still living its best damn life."

Thankfully, she had more luck when she used her iron. "I placed the damp cloth over the stain, ironed on top of it with medium heat, moving it around, because we don't want to make it worse," she explained.

"After a few seconds, I lifted the iron. Oh, that worked really well. I repeated the process until the smaller stain was completely lifted. Moving on to the larger stain, and this one was definitely a lot more stubborn. I'm pretty confident that if I keep at it with the iron, it will come off."

She also tried wipes she'd purchased from Amazon. "Someone did recommend these wipes to me, and since I already have them, I figured why not give them a try and see if it works as well.

"I got this reusable cloth from Amazon, and it's meant to erase the white rings and haze caused by heat and moisture, and it's 100% guaranteed, according to the package. So I rubbed it directly on the stain, and after a few minutes, the stain did lift."

However, the blogger still preferred the previous method. She explained: "It did leave a slight sheen on the table. It's not too noticeable, but I do think the iron and the cloth was the best method. But maybe we can just avoid the stain altogether by using a coaster."

Wrapping up her video, the homeowner wrote: "Tested 5 different methods so you don’t have to! You can easily remove heat/water stains from wood table with an iron and cloth. A number of people swore that the toothpaste and mayo works but you have to leave it overnight. I didn’t try leaving it that long but I would rather just iron the stain out in a few minutes then wait hours."

The video impressed viewers, gaining 20k views and 500 likes. Someone commented: "I used the cloth too and it left the sheen without lifting the ring. Maybe I’ll try the iron." She replied: "Yes try the iron - it worked really well. I had to really scrub with the cloth."
