Wilfried Nancy thrives on do or die night as hot Celtic manager name on brink of changing his own timeline

The 47-year-old is among the bookies' favourites and is reportedly on the list to permanently replace Brendan Rodgers

Next Celtic manager candidate Wilfried Nancy beamed after his Columbus Crew battered Cincinnati and kept alive their bid of a second MLS title triumph in three seasons.

The 47-year-old is among the bookies' favourites to be named the permanent successor to Brendan Rodgers and is reportedly on the list of candidates drawn up by the Parkhead hierarchy.

Nancy watched his Crew come alive as they wiped the floor with their rivals 4-0 to take their best-of-three series down to the wire.

Intrigue has surrounded the Frenchman after Gordon Strachan, via Tam Cowan, intimated the man the Premiership champions want won't be available until December.

And that fits Nancy's evolving timeline with the MLS Cup Final taking place on December 6.

But even if Nancy's men come up short over the next three rounds, the man himself might require a break if he is to exit the MLS side after three years at the helm.

The former Montreal boss – who worked with Alistair Johnston in Canada – played it cool when he was directly asked about the Parkhead vacancy on Thursday.

But he was positively buoyant after his side extended their playoff bid for at least one more game.

Speaking after the signature win, he said: “We played with a lot of passion, and when we play like that, not only offensively, but defensively, the mindset, this is something that is difficult to cope (with).

“Really pleased for the guys, because it was not an easy task playing Cincinnati. This is difficult all the time. And they know and we knew that it was a do or die, and to play with this kind of personality in a game like this – this is well done.”
