Woman who died in Dundee flat fire named as tributes pour in for 'kind soul'
Heartbroken friends rushed to pay tribute to the 37-year-old after the incident on Byron Street early on Friday morning.
The woman who died in a flat fire in Dundee has been named locally, with tributes pouring in for the "kind soul".
Natalie Egan has been named as the woman who passed away following the blaze on Byron Street on Friday, October 31.
Fire crews were called to reports of a fire at the property at around 7.25am. The blaze was extinguished and the body of the 37-year-old NHS worker was discovered inside.
Heartfelt tributes have been posted on social media following the tragic news. One friend of Natalie said she has been left "broken" by what happened on Halloween.
The devastated pal wrote: "This has honestly broken me. I cannot believe such a small loving caring gal that you always were Natalie Egan I’m devastated this news is horrible I wished it was all a dream.
"You were one of the most kindest girls I’ve ever met... you always kept us laughing and smiling when I felt low. You were always a message away.
"Going to miss you big time little one... I actually cannot get this out my head... shine bright natz!!! I’ll never ever forget you. You were one in a million."
Another friend took to Facebook to share her memories of Natalie, writing: "Rest in peace to Natalie
"It’s a horrible world we live in... No one deserves to go in this kind of way. Thoughts go out to your family..."
Messages of condolences were also sent on the Police Scotland Facebook post.
One woman wrote: "So sad, she was such a nice person."
One man wrote: "Thinking of all of her family at this horrific time. She was such a lovely lady."
A third commented: "I’m so deeply sorry to her family and friends, this so so deeply tragic."
A fourth signed off: "Sleep tight, beautiful".
Police Scotland said they were treating her death as murder following a post-mortem.
The force confirmed a 26-year-old man who was arrested in connection has now been charged. He will appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Monday, November 3.
The woman's family has been notified and are being provided support by specially trained officers.
Forensic officers were seen scouring the area outside a number of properties across Byron Street, Kenmore Street and Glenagnes Road in Blackness on Friday.
Officers in white suits could be seen holding bags of evidence outside in the street.
Emergency medical kits were also seen lying on the pavement nearby.
A cordon was in force around a property block. Officers were also seen stationed by the cordon, while another officer stood guard outside the front door of an upper cottage flat.
A statement from Police Scotland said: "A 26-year-old man arrested in connection with the death of a woman in Dundee has been charged.
"Around 7.25am on Friday, 31 October, 2025, we received a report of a fire at a property in the Byron Street area.
"Emergency services attended, the fire was extinguished and a 37-year-old woman who was within the property was later pronounced dead.
"Following a post-mortem examination, the woman’s death is being treated as murder and her family is being supported by specially trained officers.
"The man is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Monday, 3 November, 2025."
