World's longest flight keeps passengers in the air for 19 hours

Travellers can now travel from New York to Singapore non-stop on the worlds longest flight which sees passengers fly for 19 hours non-stop

The world's longest flight connects the United States to Asia, keeping passengers in their seats for nearly 19 hours. Currently, the title for the longest long-haul flight is held by Singapore Airlines journey from New York's JFK Airport to Singapore Changi Airport.

The journey, which was launched in 2018, covers an incredible 9,537 miles and has a scheduled flight time of 18 hours and 50 minutes. The route is operated using Singapore Airlines' state of the art A350-900ULRs aircraft, which is capable of flying nonstop for more than 20 hours.

The plane can fly for so long due to the specially modified fuel system, which boosts the plane's total fuel capacity to a staggering 24,000 litres.

However, this record-breaking flight isn’t easily accessible to all travellers. Singapore Airlines does not offer an economy class on this route, the Express reports.

Instead, passengers can choose from 67 Business Class seats or 94 Premium Economy Class seats, ensuring a more comfortable journey during nearly 19 hours in the air.

In Premium Economy, passengers can enjoy a range of upgraded features designed to make the long flight more comfortable. Extra legroom, an adjustable headrest and a footrest help travellers stretch out, while amenities such as noise-cancelling headphones and in-flight WiFi are also available throughout the flight.

For those flying Business Class, the experience is even more luxurious. Seats are designed to provide maximum privacy and can be converted into fully flat beds, allowing passengers to rest and sleep more comfortably during the nearly 19 hour flight.

Singapore Airlines say that the A350-900ULR is intended to offer customers a "more comfortable travelling experience."

The aircraft comes equipped with a range of extra features, including higher ceilings, larger windows and specially designed lighting aimed at reducing jet lag.

The Airline also says that the plane's new carbon composite airframe helps improve overall air quality for passengers.

Tickets for the route come with a hefty price tag, meaning only the wealthiest travellers are likely to afford them. Business Class and Premium Economy seats on the New York-to-Singapore flight typically cost well into five figures.

Singapore Airlines’ CEO, Mr Goh Choon Phong, has described the new route as the "fastest way" to travel between the two major cities.
